Red Bird

A series of photo manipulations exploring using kaleidoscope-like symmetry to turn ordinary object photos into evocative abstract images.

Nest

part of a series of manipulated photos that I am calling "Biomorphs." I am exploring the idea of perceptual transformation. Just as a simple kaleidoscope transforms the world from the familiar to the abstract by just making the perception of the world symmetrical. If we look closely it's easy to see the original image, yet we are perceiving something completely different. While it's easy to dismiss these images as "trippy" or hallucinogenic, it trivializes the shift toward abstraction that our brain makes by removing the image from its familiar context.
